EMS is an independent music studio in Covington, WA offering in-home private lessons for piano, guitar, and drums, as well as advanced courses in music theory, songwriting, and production

Areas of Study

  • We offer weekly, in-home lessons as in-home tutors (No need to load up the kids in the van to go to lessons!). Lessons are available Mon-Fri, year-round. School year lessons are from the first week in September through the last week of June. Summer lessons are during July and August.

    Piano lessons include study in multiple areas: Piano Performance, Theory, Technique, Scales, Chords & Arpeggios, Sacred Music, Duets, and Music History. During lessons we will primarily study through the Bastien Piano Basics Curriculum and Bastien New Traditions Piano Method. (Pictures below) We teach the methods for Young Beginners, (ages 5-7), Piano Basics (ages 7-12), and Piano for Adults (ages 12 and up). Supplemental instruction will be provided through a variety of resources.

  • Learn the basics of strumming and chords! No experience required.

    Lessons include study of traditional notation, tablature, strumming, and fingerstyle techniques. Ask about the difference between lessons for acoustic and electric.

    Weekly lessons are offered throughout the school year from September to June. Summer lessons are during July and August.

  • Learn the basics of rhythm and groove! No experience necessary. Access to Acoustic or Digital Drumset required.

    Percussion Lessons include practice in drumset and snare, and may include other percussion instruments upon request.

  • Weekly or bi-monthly lessons for ages 10 and up are offered throughout the school year from September to May. Piano experience required: At least intermediate level or 2 years of study with EMS. Composition lessons use many tools learned in piano lessons (Theory, Scales, Chords) and expand into the creative elements of these musical concepts.

    Composition Lessons include study in multiple areas: Written Notation, Theory, Ear Training, Music History, and Music Literature. Tailored instruction for each individual student ensures a unique experience based on creative interests and goals.
